About Me

Vivien Hamilton Mosaics was launched in 2012, following a lively demand from people celebrating the local, the organic and the handmade.

Culminating from many years of the obsessive love of pattern and texture, collecting vintage tiles, felt making, embroidery, free sewing and costume design this passion for mosaics was born.

Vivien Hamilton is a Locally and Nationally well respected Mosaic Artist with work in many private collections,  originally graduating with Honors from Lancaster University having studied under well known, practising and passionate craftspeople.

Collecting, scavenging and treasure hunting individual fragments of tesserae has become the greatest enjoyment of mosaicking, getting inspiration from the everyday and broken.  Individual bits of discarded crockery and glass that colour and sparkle and that would otherwise be abandoned and thrown away are given a new life, a new journey and a new history.

The juxtaposition of glass, ceramic and rich colour is lush and exciting and her techniques are raw, simple and traditional and enjoy the restoration, recycling and salvaging of the beautiful.

Vivien Hamilton is known for her cheeky lighthearted 3D forms with her unfailing attention to colour and texture.

She is also involved in public commissions for large spaces including the Blackburn Bee project with her large installation of a mosaic bee.

Her work has a unique, well defined unmistakable style that crosses boundaries, yet remains accessible.
